Teaching a live test without a live panel

Megger makes the instruments that prove an electrical system is safe before anyone energises it — chief among them the megohmmeter, the insulation resistance tester the company is named after. But the instrument is the least interesting part. It is a box with two leads. What matters is where those leads go, in what order, and what the reading means.
A trainee cannot be stood inside a live panel to be shown, so technician training has always meant the field, one crew at a time. Every procedure in the guide was staged in a modelled panel instead: the camera sits where nobody safely could, the same panel can be shown correct and faulted, and a step holds on screen for as long as it takes to land.
